No kidding: Google hires 200 goats in carbon cutdown
Internet giant Google has come up with a novel approach to cutting the grass outside its California headquarters this spring by hiring several hundred goats.
According to the company’s own blog, Google had been seeking ways of reducing the carbon footprint of its Mountain View headquarters in Palo Alto when it came across the services of California Grazing, a company offering what it describes as “environmentally friendly, self propelled weed eaters” — ie. Goats.
“A herder brings about 200 goats and they spend roughly a week with us at Google, eating the grass and fertilizing at the same time,” wrote Google employee Dan Hoffman.
“The goats are herded with the help of Jen, a border collie. It costs us about the same as mowing, and goats are a lot cuter to watch than lawnmowers.”
