Stranded dog rescued from 100-foot royal hole
A dog had to be winched to safety by firemen after plunging into a 100-foot deep collapsed mineshaft on a country estate owned by Prince Charles.
The springer spaniel failed to notice the cavernous hole while enjoying walkies with its owner, disappearing straight over the edge, according to the Daily Mail. Fortunately the dog landed on a ledge 25 feet down.
More than a dozen firemen were dispatched to the scene after the owner dialed 999. The dog was eventually brought back to the surface unharmed after a fireman was winched down.
A local resident who witnessed the rescue said: “It was a huge effort to get the dog out again and luckily it was alright. The owner was terrified. At first she thought it had fallen all the way down.”
The hole had appeared suddenly when tonnes of earth caved into the mine shaft on moorlands in Cornwall.
