Cows loose on moo-torway
Police were forced to close a section of the busy M25 motorway in Kent, southern England, on Monday after two bulls and a heifer escaped onto the carriageway after being involved in an accident in a horsebox.
Thousands of motorists were caught in traffic jams as police and vets tried to catch the stray cattle, who escaped when the horsebox overturned.
The bulls charged into a field while the heifer was eventually sedated by vets after wandering around all six lanes of motorway, the Daily Mail reported.
Stranded motorists and passengers climbed out of their cars to watch the saga unfold.
“We had to close the motorway in both directions because the cattle were wandering all over the carriageway, climbing over the central barrier,” a Highway Agency spokesman said.
“Being the end of the Bank Holiday, the roads were particularly busy, so it was not a good time for this to happen. But it did mean there was quite an audience.”
