Mixed-up dog who thinks he’s a cat seeks new home
A mixed-up Jack Russell who thinks he is a cat after sharing a home with dozens of felines has been adopted by a cat rescue centre.
The dog, called Chippy, sleeps alongside his favourite cat, a black female called Annie, uses the cats’ litter tray and even yowls rather than barks. Animal welfare staff found Chippy, who they believe is between 13 and 15 years old, when they rescued 38 cats from a single home in Gloucestershire, western England.
“He is a very gentle little dog,” fosterer Liz Dart of Stroud Cats Protection told the Gloucestershire Echo. “He goes to bed with Annie, one of the other cats. I suppose he has always lived with them – he doesn’t know any different.”
Dart said they hoped to find a new owner willing to take Chippy and Annie as a couple: “They get on so well. She is protective of him.”
In an appeal on the Stroud Cats Protection website apparently penned by Chippy himself, the dog writes: “I have lost count of the number of cats that I have shared my home with. I use a litter tray but have never got the hang of purring!
“When my owner and 40 felines were evicted the nice people @ CP just couldn’t leave me behind so I am now in temporary foster care but I would like somewhere permanent for the rest of my days. I promise to stay out of trouble but do like company (feline and human).”
