The president of Zambia has ordered the eviction of around 200 monkeys from the gardens of the presidential palace after one of them urinated on his head during a press conference.

President Rupiah Banda laughed off the incident – captured by TV cameras — after being targeted by a monkey perched on a branch above his head as he spoke to journalists, claiming he would feed the monkey to the opposition leader Michael Sata and suggesting it might bring him luck.

You have urinated on my jacket,” Banda told the monkey, looking up at the tree. “I will give this monkey for lunch to Mr Sata.”

Dozens of the animals have already been moved from State House to botanical gardens outside the Zambian capital, Lusaka.
