Video footage of a fish with bizarre telescopic jaws has become an internet hit after being posted on YouTube.

The short clip shows a type of fish called a slingjaw wrasse – or Epibulus insidiator – which feeds on smaller fish, shrimp and crabs. Although it looks like a normal fish, the slingjaw can suddenly propel its mouth forward in front of its body, taking prey by surprise.

The fish is found in tropical waters in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
