Swiss reject legal rights for animals
Voters in Switzerland have overwhelmingly rejected proposals to give legal rights to animals in a referendum.
Zoogle News reported on the plans earlier in the year but 70 percent of voters weren’t swayed by the arguments of animal rights campaigners.
Switzerland already has strict laws in place to protect animals from cruelty while lawyer Antoine Goetschel has been an animal advocate in Zurich since 2007.
“Humans accused of animal cruelty can hire a lawyer or get one assigned but animals can’t,” Goetschel told the Sunday Times earlier this ear.
“Pet keepers think that a so-called love for a guinea pig is enough. But this ignores the animal’s needs as a species, such as having a companion.”
Goetschel’s present job entails enforcing legislation guaranteeing the rights of “social animals” such as goldfish, guinea pigs and canaries to always have company. The new rules also require dog owners to go on a four-hour pet care course.
Good afternoon, I don’t come to an agreement with everything in this write-up, but you do make some very decent points. I’m very serious in this matter and I myself do alot of research as well. Either way it was a well thoughtout and nice read so I figured I would leave you a comment.
